Written by Mr. Scott Wright February, 2011 - Site Created June 2001 JP-54 Fuel Seller's Mandate If you require JP-54 or have an offer for my buyer I am the legally authorized and appointed Buyer/Seller Mandate. Please contact me with SCO or FCO by submitting your offering or fuel request here: What Is JP-54? The name evolved from Aviation fuel, and as sold on the "Colonial Pipeline" and of many blends, number 54. Since it is the first kerosene, it is marked A1 - Aviation fuel 1. It is only for jet engines - Jet Propellant (JP) since it is kerosene, and not gasoline. This needs to be added chemicals for special properties. Bear in mind that up at 40 000 feet, it is very cold - typically -42 degrees C, so planes has to have tiny filters that removes ice formed from condensate, or if not equipped with these, need additives to avoid ice to form. The military use special variants of A1 that needs to be blended for altitude, and the trade-off between raw power and distance that is needed. You can also add chemical to remove the "cloud" or streak that a high-flying jet forms. Remember that it is just as cold over Sahara in the summer at the right altitude as it is in the coldest winter night in Alaska, so the temperature - "Freezing point" is just an indicator to measure residue of fats. Most helicopters, also civilians and turboprop planes also use military grade A1. Exxon is the largest supplier of aviation fuel, and their site contains the complete description of the various blends of A1 - including "Jp54" as Aviation fuel 1, Colonial Grade 54.
